CrossPoint: A Church Reawakened

This past Sabbath, La Crosse SDA Church hosted its annual Young Adult Sabbath. Led entirely by CrossPoint, the day was filled with worship, reflection, service, and genuine connection. It was more than just a program; it was a revival of spirit and community.

Cross Point, led by Hannah Bergeon, Jessica Graffunder, Adeline Minett, and William Ramos, is a new collective focused on equipping future church leaders with community and practical leadership skills.

Rain was forecasted for Sabbath, but on Friday evening, young adults prayed for the rains to be held back. Some guests would have to walk in the rain if the forecast remained the same. Praise God, the prayers were answered. Blue sky even blessed the skies during potluck and it didn’t rain until 6 o’clock.

The morning began with a deeply engaging Sabbath School, where the congregation split into two discussion-based groups. The focus centered on the meaning of the cross and what it truly means to “take up your own cross.” To open the conversation, attendees were asked a simple but powerful question: If you had to carry something with you all day, every day, what would it be? This sparked honest and thoughtful dialogue across all ages.

Scripture guided the discussion, including passages from Isaiah 52:13–15 and Isaiah 53, which offered a profound look into the suffering and sacrifice of Christ. Participants also reflected on Matthew 16:24–25, where Jesus calls His followers to deny themselves and take up their cross. Together, these verses helped everyone present view the crucifixion and resurrection in a deeper, more personal way.

The church service that followed was entirely led by young adults, showcasing the dedication and leadership within CrossPoint. Hannah Bergeon led the welcome, announcements, and offering, while William Ramos guided the congregation through scripture and prayer. Wayde Minett shared special music, creating a meaningful atmosphere of worship. The message, titled “The CrossPoint: Humanity’s Greatest Comeback,” was delivered by Pastor Obed Salazar and left a lasting impression, tying together the themes of sacrifice, redemption, and hope. With passion, he expressed how the odds were against us and how truly unworthy we all were to deserve Jesus’ sacrifice. What a beautiful gift we have been given.

Following the service, the church gathered for a potluck filled with laughter, conversation, and fellowship. Recipes were shared and good conversation was enjoyed. Members had the opportunity to visit the newly finished and furnished CrossPoint room, a space that symbolizes growth and investment in youth and young adult ministry.

But the day didn’t end there.

At 2:15, Hannah Bergeon led the young adults beyond the church walls, visiting Hillview Health Care Center. Divided into two groups, they went room to room, singing hymns, delivering handmade Easter cards, and praying with each resident and staff member. Before beginning, the group paused to pray together, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide their interactions.

Although many of the residents at Hillview were not conversational, the tears in their eyes spoke of their tender appreciation for the visit. One resident joyfully shared that she would be going home the next day, while another, battling brain cancer, spoke about his growing faith and appreciation for the visit. Each encounter was a reminder of the power of presence, compassion, and simple acts of kindness.

The group also visited a former church member living nearby—an amputee who welcomed them warmly. They sang, prayed, and took time to personally connect, leaving a lasting impression of love and encouragement. His smile was happy and warm, reminding everyone how important it is to check in on church members who aren’t able to attend church services.

When the young adults returned to church, William Ramos led an inspiring vespers to close the Sabbath.

Returning to the church, the evening concluded with vespers led by William Ramos, to close out the Sabbath. This final gathering allowed everyone to reflect more deeply on the meaning of the cross. People shared what they learned throughout the day as well. The evening ended on a joyful note with a DIY Taco Bell-style feast and games, filled with games, laughter and connection.

From 9:30am to 9:30pm, God was with all who attended. But even before that, He was with the planning and organizing. It was an inspiring Sabbath day filled with fellowship and a reminder that God’s love was proved at the Cross, and now we have eternity with Him to look forward to, thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord.

CrossPoint Young Adult Sabbath was a powerful reminder of what happens when young people step up in faith. It brought energy back into the church, strengthened relationships, and created space for both spiritual growth and joy. With another Youth Sabbath already planned for May 30, there is a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation for what God will continue to do.
