This past weekend was our Wisconsin Conference Adventurer Family Camp Out. Our theme for the weekend was "The Heavens Declare Your Glory," and we focused on earning the Stars Award and the God's Universe Award. Six Adventurer clubs were represented from around the state, and camping took place on the Wild Side of Camp Wakonda. Clubs enjoyed campfires, fun playing in the woods, and various activities and programs planned by the Conference Youth Department.
On Friday evening, as clubs were getting settled, Pastor Zack and Ally went from club to club, reading to Adventurers the Christian children's book When You See A Star and teaching everyone the theme song for the weekend, which was "My God is So Great." On Sabbath morning, campsite and uniform inspections were done. Everyone did a great job keeping their areas clean.
Various subjects were covered during the programming, such as creation, the vastness of the universe, the Milky Way Galaxy, what stars are made of/how many of them there are, and God's plan for His people.
One highlight was stargazing on Saturday evening. Everyone trekked out to the baseball field and got to look up at the stars to see what they could see. Adventurers got to look through the camp telescope to get a detailed look at the moon (which was nearly full, and very bright). They also got to utilize an app on an iPad that shows the location of all of the stars and heavenly bodies and points out where various constellations are. Though it was a little chilly, and the stargazing was short-lived, it was still a memorable experience.
On Sunday morning, Summer Camp staff helped to run various games in the Teen field. Games like Galaxy Tag (blob tag) and Comets and Black Holes (sharks and minnows) were big hits and helped kids get out their energy before the drive home. We love our Adventurers and our Adventurer leaders and it was a great weekend together. We pray for their upcoming season of ministry, learning, and fun and can't wait to see everyone again in the spring for Adventurer Fun Days!
