Wisconsin ACF Retreat in Milwaukee

In the midst of a demanding academic season filled with coursework, responsibilities,

and growing pressure, young adults from across Wisconsin gathered for a weekend of spiritual renewal, fellowship, and rest. From November 14 –16, students representing ACF (Adventist Christian Fellowship/public campus ministry) chapters from La Crosse, Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Madison, and Milwaukee came together in Milwaukee for the Wisconsin ACF Retreat. Hosted by UW-Milwaukee ACF and the Milwaukee Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, the retreat centered on the theme “Firm Foundation,” providing intentional space for young adults to reconnect with God and strengthen community.

The weekend featured meaningful worship services, discussions, fellowship, and

outreach. Pastor Scott Manly (from the Rice Lake District) served as the main speaker, guiding participants through messages that explored the relationship between science and faith. He addressed common questions faced by young adults and challenged the idea that belief in science requires a rejection of God. Through scripture and thoughtful reflection, students were encouraged to see science and creation as pointing back to God as the ultimate source. Throughout the sessions, emphasis was placed on God’s everlasting love, reminding participants that they are forgiven, valued, and chosen.

Sabbath worship was led entirely by ACF Milwaukee under the leadership of its president, Jonathan Acosta. Worship through song was led by Ishmael Kengere, Liam, Pastor Aseel Nazir, Sarah Baptist, and Rayden Balisinomo, cultivating an atmosphere of reverence and heartfelt praise. Jonathan Acosta also delivered the Sabbath sermon, emphasizing that Christianity is more than a religious identity—it is a way of life centered on Christ. He encouraged students to place God at the core of their identity and decisions, rooting their lives in a firm foundation. The service concluded with “Firm Foundation” by Cody Carnes, reinforcing the retreat’s theme.

Following the worship service, students joined the Milwaukee Central congregation for a Sabbath potluck, experiencing warm hospitality and fellowship. Later that afternoon, participants took part in a nature walk along Lake Michigan, reflecting on God’s creation amid the autumn scenery. The retreat also included an outreach activity in collaboration with the Human Concerns Ministry at All Peoples Church, where students helped provide meals to individuals experiencing homelessness, allowing their faith to be expressed through service and compassion.

The retreat strengthened unity among ACF chapters across Wisconsin by bringing students together in worship, discussion, and service. Many experienced spiritual growth through shared testimonies and meaningful conversations, highlighting the value of faith-centered community for young adults within the conference.

Personally, the retreat served as a reminder of the importance of pausing to seek God during busy seasons. Seeing students worship sincerely, serve selflessly, and engage thoughtfully with questions of faith was deeply encouraging and reaffirmed that God continues to work through young adults who place Him at the center.

The Wisconsin ACF Retreat in Milwaukee offered a valuable opportunity for renewal and connection. There is great hope that future retreats will continue to provide spaces for young adults to grow in faith and unity. Appreciation is extended to Josh and Jonathan, who coordinated the event, Milwaukee Central SDA Church, the speakers, worship leaders, organizers, and volunteers who made this retreat possible. Participants are encouraged to join future gatherings as they continue building their lives on a firm foundation.
